Lunchbox: Renewal

Volume 1, Issue 3

Spring 2022

With a new year comes a fresh page. A fresh page that can be filled with whatever your heart desires. A fresh page that can be thrown away many times. A fresh page that will always be there for you when you are ready. A fresh page that is excited to hear what you have to say.

Lunchbox: Renewal is a culmination of stories and experiences of what renewal means to us and our own identities. Whether it could mean starting anew, or moving forward after falling back, renewal means something different for all of us.

Additionally, there are many stories in the Asian community at Emerson that defy and go against the single story of Asians in America. Tradition versus modernity is a common theme in the presence of Asian people in American media, and through Lunchbox, we aim to dismantle the single story of Asians in America. Our stories are being renewed.

Lunchbox: Renewal marks the publication’s one-year anniversary, and we’ve come so far in such a short amount of time. Starting a brand new publication is not easy, and it’s a series of trial and errors that result in fresh pages being crumpled, thrown away, and restarted. Lunchbox: Renewal serves as a reminder that though mistakes can happen, from here we only grow, and we continue to defy the single story of our community, day by day.
